Windy winter setup near Uptown Station
After a harsh winter in Normal, we got a call about an exposed construction site near Uptown Station. The wind had been cutting across the open block all morning, and the panels that were already up kept shifting in the frozen ground. We remember walking the perimeter with gloves on and feeling how hard that wind hit the corner by the rail area. In Uptown Normal, that kind of exposure turns a small problem into a bigger one fast, especially when foot traffic and site access stay active around the commercial strip. The owner needed the fence to hold, because loose panels near an active project don’t stay a small issue for long.
We rolled in with our crew, set the base line first, and packed each stand so the fence wouldn’t walk on us. We used our heavier bracing on the open side and checked every connection before we left the block. Javier planned it that way because he’s seen what winter gusts do to a weak run, especially in exposed parts of Uptown Normal. Once we tightened the line and squared the corners, the site stopped fighting the weather and the crew could get back to work without babysitting the perimeter.
That fence stayed put through the wind, and I didn’t have to worry about it all week.
